DOE Invests in Advanced Vehicle Technologies Research with FREEDM Faculty

The U.S. Department of Energy recently announced the selection of 42 projects focused on early-stage research of transportation technologies that can give families and businesses greater choice in how they meet their mobility needs. Srdjan Lukic, PhD, Deputy Director of the FREEDM Systems Center and ECE Faculty at NC State, ABB and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will receive funds to develop a project titled, “Intelligent, Grid-Friendly, Modular Extreme Fast Charging System with Solid-State DC Protection.”

“We are very pleased that the Vehicle Technologies Office selected our novel design for this extreme fast charging station,” said Dr. Lukic. “The end goal is to install the station in New York State using our design and ABB’s protection equipment. It’s an exciting project that will push the boundaries of EV charging technology.”
