Abstract

This invention relates to power conversion apparatuses and methods for interfacing between direct-current (DC)
sources or loads and alternating-current (AC) loads or sources, including electric vehicle (EV) motor drives, battery
energy storage systems, and others.
The invention presents three-phase AC-DC bidirectional converters with the minimum number of semiconductors to
achieve the wide voltage range and regeneration capability.
One of the preferred applications is SiC inverters for electric vehicle motor drives, which resulting in the reduced cost,
improved efficiency, and reduced size and weight.
